*Beara

Beara is the Peninsula that sticks out from the South West of Ireland. The end is guarded by the Bull Rock at 51 35.5N 10 18.1W and the inland end is roughly defined as Bantry and Kenmare. It is a geographical area and in fact has a part of Kerry and a part of County Cork. It is largely by passed by tourism as there are not any large roads on it and it lacks any large hotels (at the moment. There is a new five star being built.). This remoteness adds to the attraction for many people who do get here and the people who stay value the remoteness and the wilderness. They often curse the same things.

I live in the largest town, Castletownbere.

The nature of the geography means that the area is mostly crime free and many people leave their doors and cars unlocked. Dursey Island off the tip boasts the only cable car in Ireland and probably the most rusty one in the world (recently overhauled! summer 2010)
