The President is here, today, now, oh now she’s gone.
Ok here is the exclusive scoop. The President of the entire country was here in Allihies village. Where I live and I was there. Oh wow. Mary McAlleese. The excitement was palpable. A buzz was in the air as we all waited for her to arrive to open the Copper Mines Museum. Actually to be fair, she was great. Even an cynic like me had to admit that she made a few appropriate jokes and shared her few links with the area (she came here on her honeymoon in a Fiat 126!) and then gave an informed speech about the mining industry in the area and the links between Cornwall in England and Butte Montana. She thanked the appropriate people and made a joke about how much cleaning up we must have got done in the last few days. Well done Allihies.
